Do you claim to be a Social Media Expert? What do you think will be more prevalent in the social media world this year? Are mobile apps an exponentially growing phenomenon, is LinkedIn still going to be one of the best tools for B2B, and will Facebook EVER go the IPO route? Ladies and Gentlemen: let’s talk!
Considering social media has only been in existence for less than a decade, and we are still getting our bearings with all the different, networks, platforms, apps, etc. how does one decide they are an expert? I believe that at best (even if you are innovative, a strategist, great at execution, and completely on top of your game) you still ARE NOT an EXPERT!
People; this is such a new lovely and crazy world that Mark Zuckerberg (whom created Facebook for those who live in a van down by the river ;p) doesn’t necessarily know what lies ahead for certain. (There are still many privacy issues, and even Facebook is on top of the list when it comes to sites being hacked in 2011). Sure, he has AMAZING visions with consistent facelifts making the platform “easier” to utilize…but does that mean he has all the answers?
So, when you read the dictionary definition of expert: a person who has special skill or knowledge in a particular area.. is it just the “particular area” we cannot be considered an expert in just yet? How do we believe we are experts; when the level we are at in social media right now may just be equivalent to when audio tapes were first introduced in the world of music….what about CD’s, or even MP3 ‘s, etc….oh and Vinyl is now making a comeback especially for DJ’s who want to stay true to their art form!
So, now I have to ask you: do you think the Social Media World has cultivated experts, or at best are we still novices?
